New Delhi/UNI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday said that 2020 was a year of challenges for Delhi Police which they faced successfully.

“Whether it was riot of north Delhi, implementation of lockdown, helping the needy, poor and migrant labourers during that period and also in implementation of unlock process, the Delhi Police played a major role,” Shah said while speaking at a programme organised to felicitate the Corona warriors of the Delhi police.

Referring to the ongoing farmers’ agitations on the outskirts of Delhi, he said that the Delhi cops have been handling the situation in a sane manner and have maintained peace so far.

Underscoring the need of an efficient policing system for the development and growth, the Home Minister said that they have been entrusted to provide security to all institutions located in Delhi, including the President's House, Prime Minister's office as well.

''For better policing and secured law and order situation in the country, there should be a constant craving for improvement which leads to a better policing system and I hope that following this, one day the Delhi Police will become finest example of Policing in the world,'' the Home Minister said.

Noting that over 8,000 Delhi Police personnel were infected with the disease and 80 of them lost their life while serving during the lockdown and after, Shah praised all police personnel for their dedication towards duty.

The police jawans were helping the senior citizens in getting them medicines, feeding thousands of migrants labours and taking Covid patients to hospitals were remarkable and a matter of pride for all.
