Amid Punjab Congress crisis, Navjot Singh Sidhu to meet Charanjit Singh Channi today

Chandigarh/IBNS: Amid the ongoing crisis within the Congress' Punjab unit, rebel leader Navjot Singh Sidhu will be meeting state Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi Thursday.

Sidhu said he will be meeting Channi at 3 pm.

He tweeted, "Chief Minister has invited me for talks … will reciprocate by reaching Punjab Bhawan, Chandigarh at 3:00 PM today, he is welcome for any discussions!"

Taking the party high command to a complete surprise, Sidhu Tuesday resigned as the Punjab Congress chief days after his close colleague, Charanjit Singh Channi, was appointed as the Chief Minister, replacing Captain Amarinder Singh.

In his resignation letter to Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi, Sidhu wrote, "The collapse of a man's character stems from the compromise corner, I can never compromise on Punjab's future and the agenda for the welfare of Punjab.

"Therefore, I hereby resign as the President of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee. Will continue to serve the Congress."

Sidhu's resignation is a shock to the Congress high command, which was instrumental in appointing Sidhu as the Punjab unit chief going against the will of then Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh.
