Amaravati will be capital of Andhra Pradesh, says CM-elect N Chandrababu Naidu

Vijayawada/IBNS: Ahead of his oath-taking ceremony, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister-designate N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday declared his government will make Amaravati as the state capital, media reports said.

"Amaravati will be the capital of our state. We will aim to develop the entire state, not just a few places," Naidu as quoted by The Indian Express..

Naidu, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief, made the announcement during the NDA meeting held in Vijayawada.

YSRCP chief Jagan Mohan Reddy, who is set to be succeeded by Naidu, had proposed an idea of decentralised development in the state.

Reddy as the Chief Minister floated the idea of making Amaravati as the legislative capital, Visakhapatnam as the administrative capital and Kurnool as the judicial capital.

Taking a dig at the former Chief Minister, Naidu said the voters have responded by defeating YSRCP in Visakhapatnam.

The TDP chief has been unanimously elected as the leader of the coalition, which swept the recently concluded assembly elections.

The TDP, Jana Sena Party and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which are in an alliance, have bagged 135, 21, 8 seats. YSRCP, which came to power in 2019, won only 11 seats.

Naidu will take oath as the Chief Minister on June 12. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the supreme leader of the BJP, will attend the oath-taking ceremony.
