Air Force conducts medical camp for tribals of Jharkhand
As part of its Golden Jubilee celebrations and for enhancing contact with the surrounding villages, a medical camp was organized at Balami village on 19 August.
The Station Commander of the base Group Captain Abhishek Jha and his wife Meghna played the lead role in organising the camp. Word about the camp was spread through the village heads.
About 500 Pahadiyas (villagers) arrived at the camp and availed of the facilities provided by the base.
They were provided free health check up and given medicines for specific ailments. In addition the medical authorities conducted blood sample tests for malaria and carried out spraying and fogging as part of anti-malarial measures.
Personnel of the base participated whole heartedly in the event and donated clothes and food to the villagers.
Speaking on the occasion, the Station Commander said that he was encouraged by the response of the villagers and would plan for conducting more such camps on a regular basis.
The air force base happens to be located in one of the most backward areas of Jharkhand and the combine of vegetation and weather in the area provide ideal conditions for malarial outbreak.
Anti malarial measures are in effect practically throughout the year and for this reason personnel are posted here for a restricted tenure. Villagers from nearly 30 surrounding villages are routinely being provided free treatment and medicines by the Air Force base as a social welfare measure.
