AIADMK hints support for Modi-led NDA

| | May 14, 2014, at 05:44 pm
Chennai/New Delhi, May 14 (IBNS) AIADMK, led by Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa, could support a Narendra Modi led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government at the centre, according to a leader of the southern party.

AIADMK leader K Malaisamy said both Jayalalithaa and Modi are very good friends and have mutual respect.

He said they would like to have close ties with the NDA government if they come to power, especially for the benefit of the state.

Earlier the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) led by Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik has denied having talks with the BJP on the question of supporting the NDA led by Narendra Modi, but kept its options open leaving room for speculations.

Amid reports of conditional support to the NDA by BJD, Patnaik said there was not talk with the NDA on anything and they have not decided anything so far. He said in an TV interview that it is too early to say anything.

But his party leaders also spoke of conditional support.

If the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) wins a clear majority, a new government led by Narendra Modi could be a reality by May 20, according to reports, even as top BJP leaders are set to meet the Gujarat Chief Minister in Gandhinagar to discuss their post result strategy.

Media reports said Modi could take office sooner if NDA gains clear majority.

A staggered nine-phase Lok Sabha poll ended on May 12 in India with projections in all exit polls that BJP-led NDA will come to power.

Several of the exit polls said NDA will bag at least 272 seats while some put the figure at around 282 in the 543 member Parliament.
