Chandigarh, Aug 15 (IBNS) : Amid the celebrations of the independence day, a minor girl was raped in a park on Tuesday in Chandigarh's sector 23, close on the heels of the stalking incident that shocked the nation.

According to media reports, the victim is a class eight student.

The incident happened soon after Independence Day celebrations were over at the  girl’s school and she was on her way home.

When the girl was nearing her home, she was confronted by a man, who gagged her and took  her to a nearby park before committing the crime.

The man fled the spot and the girl's screams drew the attention of passers-by who took her to a hospital.

Police have registered a case under different sections of the IPC and have begun investigations.
