After Noida attack, Nigerian student tweets Sushma Swaraj, she calls CM Adityanath

Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, Mar 28 (IBNS) : Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has assured that a "fair and impartial" investigation into a mob attack on several African students in Greater Noida will be conducted, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said on Tuesday morning.

In a series of tweets, Swaraj informed that Adityanath's assurance came after she spoke to him about the attack on African students on Monday.

"I have spoken to Yogi Adityanath ji Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh about attack on African students in Greater Noida," Swaraj said.

"He has assured that there will be a fair and impartial investigation into this unfortunate incident."

Swaraj had tweeted late on Monday evening that she has sought a report from the UP Government.

According to NDTV, an African student in Greater Noida had in a tweet, pleaded with  Swaraj for swift action, saying that living in Noida has become "a life threatening issue".

A a mob, protesting the death of a local student, attacked Nigerian students.

NDTV quoted police as saying that hundreds of local residents on Monday took to the street  in protest against the death of a Class 12 student, Manish Khari, when some of them attacked  Nigerian students shopping in the area.

The attackers alleged that the student was drugged by Africans who live in the area.

Three Africans have been admitted to hospital with injuries.

Manish, who had been missing for a day,  died of a cardiac arrest after a suspected drug overdose on Saturday.

Local residents have alleged that the Nigerians living in the area are of bad influence for the youngsters who are taking to drugs.

The police initially detained five Nigerians for questioning, but later released them.

The police said seven local residents have been arrested.
