After Congress, Modi-led BJP to fast over parliament washout
New Delhi, Apr 11 (IBNS): Following the footsteps of the Congress, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi will host a fast on Thursday, as a protest against the parliament washout.
In a press statement, the BJP has said Modi will hold a day-long fast "to expose the Congress for its undemocratic style of functioning & pursuing divisive politics & anti-development agenda."
Despite the fast, the PM will carry on with his official duties on Thursday.
BJP national president Amit Shah will be present at a protest in Hubli, Karnataka.
BJP has also accused Congress, the principal opposition party, of disturbing peace and harmony in the country by inciting hatred and creating rift in the society.
The second phase of the budget session, which began on Mar 5, was almost a washout.
The parliament could barely work for an hour on each working day.
The protests were mainly staged by opposition parties in the parliament over a range of issues which includes Punjab National Bank scam, Cauvery river water, special status for Andhra Pradesh.
The no-confidence motions- which were brought against the BJP-led central government by TDP, TRS, Left and Congress- could not be tabled in Lok Sabha due to the ruckus by opposition parties.
Couple of days ago, Congress was mired in controversy after several of its leaders were caught having "Chola Bhature" before going for the fast.
The fast was held by the Congress as a protest against the parliament washout, CBSE paper leaks and a special status for Andhra Pradesh.
