After 106 days in jail, Chidambaram back in Parliament today

New Delhi/IBNS: After spending 106 days in jail over the INX Media case, former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram, who was granted bail by the Supreme Court a day ago, is back in Parliament on Thursday.

On his first day in the winter session of Parliament, Chidambaram was found protesting along with other Congress MPs against the rise in onion prices outside Parliament.

In a strong statement against the government, Chidambaram said, "Unfortunately the government can't suppress my voice in parliament."

The former Finance Minister on Wednesday told media not a single charge was framed against him in 106 days when he was behind the bars. He is expected to speak on the falling economy in Parliament on Thursday.

Taking a jibe at Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Nishikant Dubey's comment where he said Gross Domestic Product (GDP)- which fell to 4.5% in Q2 of the ongoing fiscal year- is not significant, Chidambaram, the senior Congress leader, had tweeted, "GDP numbers are irrelevant, personal tax will be cut, import duties will be increased. These are BJP’s ideas of reforms. God save India’s economy."

Chidambaram on Thursday will address media at 12:30 pm.

The Congress veteran, who was lodged in Tihar jail, has however been granted the bail with certain conditions.

The former Finance Minister will have to surrender his passport, he can't tamper with evidences and talk to media persons or witnesses.

A three-judge bench- comprising Justices R Banumathi, A S Bopanna and Hrishikesh Roy- has also slammed the Delhi High Court, which had earlier rejected Chidambaram's bail plea, for drawing "observations" from "merits".

Chidambaram was first arrested by the CBI on Aug 21 for allegedly committing corruption by facilitating a huge flow of foreign funds to INX media when he was the Finance Minister.

Though he was granted bail by the Supreme Court on Oct 22, Chidambaram was arrested by the ED in connection with the same case on 16th of the same month.
