Abu Salem sentenced to seven years imprisonment in extortion case

New Delhi, June 7 (IBNS) :  A Delhi court on Thursday sentenced gangster Abu Salem to seven years rigorous imprisonment in a 2002 extortion case, media reports said.

Salem was convicted by the court on May 26 for demanding Rs five crore as protection money from a businessman in 2002.

Additional Sessions Judge Tarun Sehrawat held Salem guilty of extortion and criminal intimidation and kept pending the quantum of punishment. 

In the extortion case lodged in Delhi, it was alleged that Salem had demanded Rs 5 crore as protection money from businessman Ashok Gupta, a resident of Greater Kailash.
