Abrogation of Articles 370, 35A formed continued state of peace: Amit Shah

Ahmedabad: Defending the Narendra Modi government's historic decision to do away with Jammu and Kashmir's special status, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday said the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A have formed a continued state of peace.

Shah made the comment while addressing the 27th foundation day of Rapid Action Force here.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi has paid tribute to the 35,000 jawans that we have lost by removing Article 370 and 35A from Kashmir. It has formed a continued state of peace," Shah said.

Shah on Sunday attacked the Opposition which has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of "murdering democracy" by imposing restrictions in Jammu and Kashmir, which has been bifurcated by the Centre on Aug 5 into two Union Territories, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

Shah on Sunday said that there is no curfew or restriction in Jammu and Kashmir barring eight police stations and the Opposition is spreading misinformation about the state.

Addressing a seminar on National security here, he said, “Where are the restrictions? It is only in your mind. There are no restrictions. Only misinformation about restrictions is being spread."

There has been no causality since Aug 5 and not even a single bullet has been fired in the state.Out of 196 police stations only eight police stations have been under restrictions under 144 in which not more than four people can assembled for political procession or any political activities, rest of the areas were the normal and there is no restriction on movement of the people, he added.

Even after 50 days since the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A, several former Jammu and Kashmir leader including former Chief Ministers- Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti- have been kept under house arrest.
