Guwahati, June 8 (IBNS): The crime branch of Guwahati city police on Thursday arrested the general secretary of Nikhil Bharat Bangali Udbastu Samanvay Samiti (NIBBUSS) in the capital city of Assam in connection with the All Assam Students Union (AASU) office attack incident in Dhemaji district on March 6.

Police arrested Ambika Ray, NIBBUSS general secretary and advocate of Supreme Court, while he was trying to get interim bail from a local court in the city.

A top police official said that, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) earlier summoned the NIBBUSS general secretary to appear before the investigating team.

“CID summoned to Ambika Ray after arrested SSP of CID providing information of investigation report of the AASU office attack incident to the NIBBUSS leader through RTI,” the top Assam cops said.

Earlier, the Guwahati city police crime branch had arrested IPS officer Dr N Rajamarthandan after proving of leakage of investigation process information through RTI.

The top police official said that, the IPS official was violating the government notification while the Assam government had already notified that, CID organization is exempted from providing information under RTI Act as per government notification no PLA.384/2005/54 dated March 8, 2006 and no details of investigation can be divulged to anyone without the permission of the competent court.

Assam police had already arrested NIBBUSS president Subodh Biswas and 54 others in connection with the ransacking AASU office incident.
