A day after getting bail, UP doctor Kafeel Khan charged under NSA over CAA speech

Lucknow/IBNS: A day after getting bail, Uttar Pradesh doctor Kafeel Khan was on Friday charged under the National Security Act (NSA) for his speech against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) late last year, media reports said.

Khan, who was arrested by the Uttar Pradesh police last month, was granted bail on Thursday but he was not released.

The First Information Report (FIR), which was filed against Khan, stated the accused had tried to vitiate peaceful atmosphere in the university and disturb communal harmony.

Two days after the case was registered against Khan, a clash broke out at AMU and police were accused of resorting to violence. In a video, the police were seen assaulting students and smashing two-wheelers.

Khan is the same person who was jailed following the death of 60 children at a government hospital in the state in 2017.

Slamming the new charge against Khan, Swaraj India president Yogendra Yadav tweeted, "Shocking! UP Police follows Kashmir model. Dr Kafeel was arrested. Court ordered his release. But he was not released. Now we learn that he has been booked under NSA.  Name of the game: will keep cooking excuses, but will catch and keep whoever we want."
