Vizianagaram/UNI: At least six people were killed and several others were injured on Sunday after a passenger train collided with another passenger train near Alamanda-Kantakapalli in Vizianagaram district in Andhra Pradesh.

Railway officials said that the Visakhapatnam-Palasa passenger train halted on the track and was waiting for a signal.

At the same time, the Visakhapatnam-Rayagada passenger train dashed the stationary train in the rear end. According to the information available, six passengers have been killed and over 40 injured.

Rescue operations have been taken up in a big way. The electrical wires snapped, and three bogies derailed in the accident. The railway authorities set up a helpline with phone numbers.
