262 kg marijuana seized in West Bengal, 1 held

Kolkata/Cooch Behar, Apr 19 (IBNS): Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) jawans on Wednesday arrested a youth from Cooch Behar district of West Bengal and recovered at least 262 kg marijuana from his possession, officials said.

According to reports, acting on a tip-off, jawans of SSB's 17th battalion carried out raid at Kanchiyar Kuthi area in Cooch Behar district and nabbed a suspect, Shyamal Barman.

As many as 262 kg marijuana, one single-shot country made firearm and eight cartridges were recovered from his possession.

Later, SSB handed the man over to the local police.

Police have started probe in the matter, while the man will be produced before a local court on Thursday.

A police official said that present market value of the seized marijuana is nearly 35 lakh rupees.
