22 Indian sailors aboard hijacked marine tanker released, Sushma Swaraj thanks Nigeria, Benin

New Delhi, Feb 6 (IBNS): Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Tuesday thanked the governments of Nigeria and Benin for their support during the rescue mission of 22 Indian sailors aboard a marine tanker which was hijacked by pirates.

"I am happy to inform that Merchant Ship Marine Express with 22 Indian nationals on board has been released,"Swaraj's tweet read.

"We thanks Governments of Nigeria and Benin for their help and support," (sic) a follow up tweet read.

According to the Hong Kong based company, the tanker went missing on Feb 1.

Later it confirmed that the ship has been hijacked by pirates.

The vessel was carrying 13,500 tonnes of gasoline.

Anglo Eastern, the shipping company, tweeted on Tuesday morning, "We are delighted to report that the MT Marine Express, which was hijacked by pirates on Feb 1, is now back under the command of the captain & crew since ~04:00 SG time today. All crew members are reported to be safe & well & the cargo intact. We thank you all for your well wishes."
