| @indiablooms | Dec 10, 2018, at 06:44 pm

New Delhi, Dec 10 (IBNS): In a bid to form a front that might take on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in the next Lok Sabha polls, leaders of 21 opposition parties met in New Delhi on Monday.

Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati and  Samajwadi Party  top leader Akhilesh Yadav remained absent from the meeting.

The meeting was attended by the Congress and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, among others.

Sharing images from the meeting, the Congress party tweeted: " Change is coming. UPA Chairperson Smt. Sonia Gandhi, Former PM Dr. Manmohan Singh & Congress President @RahulGandhi attend Key Opposition Meet in Parliament Annexe today. "

The meeting occurred on a day when several crucial events occurred in the nation.

Union minister and Rashtriya Lok Shakti (RLSP) party chief Upendra Kushwaha has resigned from the Narendra Modi cabinet after a long-drawn battle with the BJP over seat-sharing for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, media reports said on Monday.

Apart from it, Reserve Bank of India Governor Urjit Patel also quit from his post on the same day.

The meeting was held just a day before Assembly polls results of several states, including Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, will be announced.

Exit Polls indicated that the BJP might face a tough challenge in several of the states including Rajasthan.
