1984 anti-Sikh riots: CBI files reply to Congress leader Jagdish Tytler's application seeking supply of deficient documents
New Delhi/IBNS/UNI: A Delhi court after hearing a request on behalf of Congress leader Jagdish Tytler, an accused in a case related to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, adjourned the matter on Tuesday for arguments on Sept 6.
Counsel for the accused Tytler earlier moved an application seeking a supply of deficient documents.
The counsel for the accused sought time for advancing submissions stating that he needs to go through the reply as well as the documents supplied by PP for CBI.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate(ACMM) Vidhi Gupta Anand after hearing the request said, "In the interest of justice, the matter is adjourned. Matter be now put up for arguments for further proceedings on 06.09.2023".
The magistrate earlier after taking cognizance of the chargesheet, issued a summon against Tytler to appear before the court, and the matter was fixed on Tuesday for reply and arguments on the application.
CBI Special Judge Vikas Dhull had earlier allowed the anticipatory bail application of Tytler on August 4 after imposing certain conditions including furnishing a bail bond of Rs 1 lakh and warning him not to tamper with the evidence related to the case.
The investigating agency filed a chargesheet on May 20 by submitting that Tytler had instigated and provoked the mob assembled at Pul Bangash Gurdwara, Azad Market, on November 1, 1984, which resulted in the burning down of the Gurdwara and killing of three Sikhs - Thakur Singh, Badal Singh, and Guru Charan Singh.
It has levelled the charges under Sections 147 (rioting), and 109 (abetment), read with Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against Tytler in the case.
Three people were killed and a Gurdwara was torched in the Pul Bangash area on Nov 1, 1984 - a day after the assassination of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
