1,449 militants apprehended in Assam in 2015: PB Acharya

Guwahati, Feb 1 (IBNS): Security forces had apprehended a total of 1,449 cadres of different militant groups in Assam in 2015, Assam governor PB Acharya said in the state assembly session on Monday.
While addressing the state assembly session started from Monday, the Assam governor said that, during the year 2015, the security forces had apprehended 1,449 cadres of different militant groups.
 
“The security forces also recovered 577 assorted arms, 15,515 rounds of live ammunition, 58 IEDs, 307 grenades, 144 kgs of explosives, 2,979 detonators and cash amounting to Rs 29,85,510 from different extremist elements,” Acharya said.
 
“During this period, 58 militants and 10 civilians were killed in encounters and 49 persons were kidnapped in extremist related incidents in the state,” the Assam governor said.
 
The Assam governor also said that, identification of one module of Jamat-ul-Mujahideen, Bangladesh (JMB) in the state in the wake of incident of the blast in Khagraharh, Burdwan district, West Bengal, led to arrest of 30 members of the module from Barpeta, Nalbari and Chirang districts of Assam, as well as recovery of 10 bombs.
 
“Five of the arrested members were found to have undergone training in Mukhimnagar and Simulia Madrassa of West Bengal, whereas the other arrested were helpers,” Acharya said in his addressing speech.
