13 Indians rescued after cargo ship sinks in Red Sea following explosive boat attack

The vessel, MSV Faize Noore Oliya, overturned and went down around 13 nautical miles south of the Houthi-controlled port city of Hodeidah following the attack.

According to the Yemeni National Resistance Force, also known as the Guards of the Republic, the rescued crew comprised 13 Indian nationals and one Yemeni.

All of them were brought to safety by the coast guard and naval units and have received medical assistance.

Yemeni forces blame Houthis

In a statement, the Yemeni National Resistance Force said its coast guard and naval units carried out a joint rescue operation after the attack and blamed the Houthi group for targeting the cargo vessel.

The attack occurred in waters off Yemen's western coastline, an area that has witnessed repeated maritime security incidents in recent years.

India condemns attack

India strongly condemned what it described as an "unprovoked" attack on the India-flagged vessel near Yemeni waters.

Union Ports, Shipping and Waterways Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said he had directed the Director General Maritime Administration (DGMA) to coordinate with all relevant agencies to ensure the safety of Indian seafarers operating in the region.

He added that the government would provide all necessary assistance to the rescued crew members.

The incident once again highlights the continuing security risks faced by commercial vessels and Indian seafarers operating in the Red Sea amid ongoing regional tensions.
