12 killed as 8 coaches of Hirakhand Express derails in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Jan 22 (IBNS): At least 12 passengers were killed and several others were injured when Jagdulpur to Bhubaneswar bound Hirakhand Express (18448) train went off the track near Kuleri railway station, barely 30 km from Rayagada in Odisha on Saturday midnight, local media reports said.

According to reports, engine, luggage van and eight passenger coaches, including two AC compartments, four sleeper coaches and two unreserved coaches, derailed in the incident.

Two sleeper coaches- S7 and S8- have been badly affected due to the deadly mishap.

Railway's relief teams have rushed to the spot and rescue operation is currently underway there with full efforts.

"Total 4 accident relief vans rushed from different places, rescue and relief operations underway. Priority is treatment,shifting of injured passengers to nearest hospital," the East Coast Railways tweeted.
