1.1 kg gold seized at airport, 20 passengers grilled

Chennai, Mar 6 (UNI) Customs officials seized 1.1 kg of gold bars and jewellery worth Rs 37 lakh from passengers who arrived from Singapore, Malaysia, Dubai and Colombo at the Anna International airport here on Wednesday morning.

Airport sources said a total of 20 passengers, including four women, who had smuggled the gold bars and chains, by concealing them in their inner garments and hand baggages, were being detained for a  detailed interrogation.

The detailed passengers were hailing from Colombo in Sri Lanka and from Chennai, Pudukkottai and Ramanathapuram districts of Tamil  Nadu.

Police were questioning them to ascertain whether they acted as  carriers.
