10 killed, over 40 injured in boiler blast at Vedanta Power Plant in Chhattisgarh
At least 10 people were killed and over 40 others injured in a massive explosion at a power plant in Chhattisgarh’s Sakti district on Tuesday, police said, adding that several workers are feared trapped at the site, media reports said.
According to preliminary information, the blast occurred in a boiler tube at a plant operated by Vedanta Limited in Singhitarai village during the afternoon.
Rescue operations underway
Local administration and police teams rushed to the spot soon after the incident and launched rescue operations.
Authorities said efforts are ongoing amid concerns that some workers may still be trapped in the debris.
The injured have been shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Company responds, probe initiated
Calling the incident “unfortunate,” a spokesperson for the plant said the explosion took place in one of the boiler units involving personnel from subcontractor NGSL, which operates and maintains the unit.

“Our immediate priority is to ensure the best possible medical assistance and treatment for all those affected,” the spokesperson said.
The company added that it is extending full support to the injured and is working closely with medical teams and local authorities.
A detailed investigation has been initiated in coordination with relevant agencies.
PM announces compensation
Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the incident as “tragic” and announced financial assistance for the victims.
“An ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs 50,000,” he said, while expressing condolences to the bereaved families and wishing a speedy recovery to the injured.
Chief Minister assures strict action
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai termed the incident “extremely distressing and heart-wrenching.”
He said the district administration is on-site and that rescue and relief operations are being carried out at a rapid pace.
He also assured a thorough and impartial investigation.
“Whosoever is found guilty in this matter will face the strictest possible action,” he said.
