10 killed in cracker factory fire

Hyderabad, Oct 20 (IBNS): At least 10 persons have died and many injured on Monday when a devastating fire broke out at a cracker factory near Kakinada region in Andhra Pradesh’s East Godavari district, media reported.

According to reports received, the fire first broke out in a cracker-manufacturing shop in Kakinada’s U Kotthapalli police station limits of the district. It then rapidly spread to nearby shops. It has been learnt that, 10 persons were charred to death and seven others suffered serious burn injuries in the mishap.

“Fire broke out in the cracker manufacturing shop of Vakathippa of U Kothapalli in East Godavari. At least 10 bodies were charred at the scene,” Sub-Inspector of Pithapuram police station, Sanyasi Naidu who is at the spot carrying out rescue operations, is quoted by media as saying.

“We have shifted seven injured to hospital. The scene is chaotic,” Naidu added. Eye-witnesses said that the conditions of some of the injured are very serious. Media reported that the number of deaths may rise. Several fire engines has been pressed into service.
