A civic volunteer, who was attached to the Magrahat police station under Diamond Harbours police district, was arrested for allegedly stealing Rs. 40,000 from a retired sessions judge.

He was identified as Md Hasan Gazi.

He has been sent to police custody.

The civic volunteer reportedly stole the ATM card of the judge in June.

He allegedly withdrew Rs. 40,000 from an ATM.

"Going through the CCTV footage of the ATM, Gazi was picked up for questioning and was subsequently arrested,”  a senior police official told The Times of India.

The incident came to light at a time when the nation is protesting the alleged rape and murder of a PG trainee doctor in RG Kar Medical College hospital in Kolkata.

A civic volunteer named Sanjoy Roy has been arrested in the case so far.
