Rahul Gandhi claims farmer leaders were not allowed to meet him in Parliament

New Delhi/IBNS: Leader of Opposition and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has claimed farmer leaders were not allowed to meet him in Parliament by the government.

Gandhi was scheduled to meet a delegation of farmer leaders at around 11 am in Parliament.

Speaking to the reporters, the Congress MP said, "We had invited them (farmer leaders) here to meet us. But they are not allowing them here (in Parliament). They are not allowing them in, maybe because they are farmers."

Gandhi reportedly planned to talk to the farmer leaders on the Minimum Support Price (MSP), the flashpoint between the protesting peasants and government.

Leaders from the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha on Monday announced a fresh protest against the Modi government on the MSP issue.

The farmer leaders demand the legalisation of the MSP.

They will also hold a march in support of the private bills which have been announced by the Opposition.

In February, the farmers had begun the second phase of their protest against the government but they were stopped at the border of Haryana through barricades.

The two organisations have planned to hold a joint rally in Uttar Pradesh's Sambhal district on September 1.
