Chandigarh/IBNS: The Haryana government led by newly appointed Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini won the vote of confidence during a special session of the Assembly on Wednesday.

After a debate on the confidence motion moved by Chief Minister Saini earlier in the day, the House passed the motion by a voice vote.

Addressing the members, Saini said his government would serve the people of the state in the same manner as his predecessor Manohar Lal Khattar's regime under which Haryana has seen "all-round development in the past nine and a half years, and the public has received benefits".

"We have to work with the same mindset to provide benefits and rapid development to the people, and bring new development programmes. I have learned a lot under the guidance of Manohar Lal," he said.

Saini said though it was his first day in the House as Chief Minister, he has been a member of the Vidhan Sabha from 2014 to 2019.

Calling himself a small worker of the BJP, Saini said he comes from an ordinary family where none was in politics.

He said after carrying out various responsibilities given by the BJP leadership, he has now become the leader of the House. Such a growth was only possible in the BJP.

Saini, who is also the state unit of the BJP, took oath on Tuesday after Khattar resigned following a fracture in the BJP-Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) over the seat-sharing talks for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
