Bhopal: A Muslim woman, who was thrashed by her family for voting in favour of the BJP in the recent Madhya Pradesh assembly election, visited Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan at his official residence on Saturday.

The woman named Sameena Bi met Chouhan at his official residence with her two children and expressed concerns about their safety.

The Chief Minister decided to meet with her after he learned from reports that the woman was beaten up for supporting the BJP.

During the meeting, Chouhan assured her of safety and security.

Sameena Bi told the Chief Minister that she would continue to favour the BJP, and expressed gratitude for the concern he showed for the well-being of her children.

"My brother-in-law Javed attacked me when he came to know I voted for the BJP. He asked why did I vote for brother Shivraj Singh Chouhan's party," she was quoted as saying by NDTV.

She said the meeting with the Chief Minister went well. "Bhaiya (Mr Chouhan) said they will ensure me and my children are safe, that I exercised my voting right the way I want. The Constitution gives us the right to vote for anyone of our choice," Sameena Bi said, according to NDTV.

Sameena said Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has a clean record, and that's why she voted for the party.

Chouhan, a four-time Chief Minister, made history with yet another victory in Madhya Pradesh, which have been attributed to his women-friendly schemes like the "Ladli behena" scheme.

Despite this success, there is uncertainty about his reappointment, as the party is exploring other potential candidates and considering a generational shift.

Following the BJP's decisive triumph in Madhya Pradesh with 163 out of 230 seats, Chouhan has consistently maintained that he is a loyal party member and not actively seeking the Chief Ministerial position.

He has told the reporters that his focus is now on ensuring the BJP's success in all 29 Lok Sabha seats in Madhya Pradesh.
