Mirzapur (UP)/IBNS/UNI: Four police personnel, including a Station Officer (SO), were suspended on charges of committing laxity after a youth was shot dead in the Jigna area of Mirzapur district here in Uttar Pradesh, a senior police officer said here on Thursday.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Abhinandan said that Vivek alias Vicky Singh (32), a resident of Gaura village, was shot dead at a gambling den in the Babhani area late on Wednesday evening.

"Preliminary investigation revealed that Vicky was killed over an old rivalry," he said.

He said that the deceased was shot five times, once in the temple and four times in the chest.

"A case has been lodged against five persons in this regard. Investigation revealed that when Vicky reached the gambling den someone informed the main accused Abhimanyu Singh, who along with his two aides shot the deceased," he said.

The SP said that four police personnel, including SO Ravikant Mishra, beat Sub-Inspector (SI) Rajendra Ram, constables Sarvesh Kumar and Komal Pal, have been suspended on charges of laxity with immediate effect.

He said that three teams have been constituted to arrest the accused and they will be nabbed soon. Police force has been deployed in the village from the security point of view, he said.
