Amid the chanting of "Modi, Modi" and "Bharat Mata ki Jai" at La Seine Musicale in Paris, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday addressed the Indian diaspora during his two-day trip to France, media reports said.

In a late night speech, Modi made some big announcements including a new consulate in Marseille, UPI in France.

UPI in France will allow Indians in France to make transactions in the Indian currency, Rupee.

Among other announcements, the Prime Minister said Indian students studying masters in France will get a five-year-long-term-post-study visa.

In his long speech to the Indian diaspora, Modi highlighted India's bonding with France.

Modi said, "I have visited France several times but this time my visit is special. Tomorrow is France's National Day. I congratulate the people of France. I thank the people of France for inviting me.

"Today the French PM received me at the airport and tomorrow I will attend the National Day parade with my friend Emmanuel Macron. This is a reflection of the unbreakable friendship between India and France."

Showcasing India's strength at the global stage, the Prime Minister further said, "Today the world is moving towards the new world order. India's role is changing rapidly.

"India is currently chairing the G20 and the entire G20 group is seeing India's potential."

Bringing his personal connection with France, Modi said, "My attachment with France is quite old, and I can never forget it. Around 40 years ago, a cultural centre of France was started in Ahmedabad and the first member of that very centre is today talking to you."

Modi was conferred with the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour, France's highest award, on Thursday by  French President Emmanuel Macron.

Modi is scheduled to have a day-long trip to UAE after the conclusion of his French visit.
