Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi pay homage to Rajiv Gandhi on his death anniversary

New Delhi/IBNS: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and former party chief Sonia Gandhi paid rich tributes to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his death anniversary at Vir Bhumi here on Sunday.

Among the top party leaders, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and KC Venugopal were present and paid floral tributes to the former PM.

Earlier, Kharge while recalling the contribution of the former PM in a tweet wrote, "Rajiv Gandhi was a great son of India. Through multiple interventions such as lowering of voting age, strengthening Panchayati Raj,Telecom and IT revolution, and sustained peace accords — he transformed India, propelling it in 21st century. Our humble homage on his martyrdom day."

"Rajiv Gandhi ji was a visionary who sacrificed his life for the sake of India’s unity. He was loved by every Indian and his martyrdom was a moment of collective grief for the entire nation," Venugopal wrote in a social media post.

The senior Congress leader added, "His death anniversary is an occasion to remember the lofty ideals he stood for and the huge strides we made under his Prime Ministership. "

The Delhi unit of the Congress also paid homage to the former PM at its party office here.
