Amit Shah's mega rally in Bengal tomorrow, Trinamool's welcome note with questions

Kolkata/IBNS: Union Home Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) top leader Amit Shah will be addressing a mega rally in West Bengal's Siuri on Saturday ahead of the upcoming high-pitched panchayat elections in the state.

Shah is likely to set the party's tone for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Last time before the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Shah had set a target of 23 seats for the BJP.

Though the BJP had failed to breach the Trimamool Congress' fort in 2019, it gave a massive jolt to the governing party increasing its tally from 2 to 18.

Meanwhile, Siuri falls in the Birbhum district, which remains the political flashpoint in the state.

Birbhum has gained supreme importance politically after Trinamool's district president Anubrata Mondal has been arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the cattle smuggling case.

While Shah is likely to target the Mamata Banerjee government on corruption allegations, the Trinamool was on Thursday ready with some questions for the Union Home Minister.

Trinamool MP Mahua Moitra questioned Shah on how the party could have "corrupt Leader of Opposition in Bengal".

The Krishnanagar MP had targeted Bengal LoP Suvendu Adhikari, who is leading the BJP's charge against the Trinamool government in the state.

Moreover, Moitra has questioned Shah as to why the payments of MGNREGA workers are not being cleared despite their service.

"Welcome to Bengal Amit Shah! But you must answer these questions," said Moitra at a press conference.
