After disqualification, Rahul Gandhi gets notice to vacate govt bungalow in Delhi within a month

New Delhi/IBNS: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been asked to vacate his Tughlaq Lane bungalow in Delhi, which he has been occupying since 2005, after his disqualification from the Lok Sabha following the two-year jail term by a Gujarat court in a defamation case.

The eviction notice from the Lok Sabha housing panel came two days after his disqualification from the Parliament.

Gandhi's team informed the media that they have not received the notice, which came amid Congress assertions that he would file an appeal against the Surat court's judgment.

The former Congress chief has been given 30 days to file an appeal.

The eviction though could be a technicality since as a recipient of 'Z-Plus' security, Gandhi is entitled to accommodation provided by the government, media reports said.

The Congress leader has been given time till April 23 to vacate the bungalow.

Rahul Gandhi was sentenced to a 2-year jail sentence in the 2019 defamation case for his remark against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

During the 2019 Lok Sabha poll campaign, the Gandhi scion had said, "How come all the thieves have Modi as the common surname."

A complaint, which was lodged by BJP leader Purnesh Modi, claimed Rahul had defamed the entire Modi community.
