Srinagar: Nearly two weeks after a top Kashmiri militant commander of Hizbul Mujahideen was shot dead in Pakistan under mysterious circumstances, India's anti-terror agency on Saturday attached his property in the Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Officials said National Investigation Agency (NIA) sleuths assisted by local authorities on Saturday attached the immovable properties, including land, owned by Bashir Ahmed Peer alias Imtiyaz Alam, a resident of Babapora Kralpora Kupwara.

NIA said Peer was declared a ‘designated individual terrorist’ by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in October last year.

The MHA notification had said Peer played a role in “terror activities” and was providing logistics to the banned outfit Hizbul for infiltration in Kupwara.

The NIA attached the agricultural land measuring one kanal 13 situated at Batapora that belonged to Peer. A notice of attachment of the attached property was also put up.

This is the third property that has been attached in Kashmir by the NIA. On Thursday NIA attached the house of Pakistan-based Al-Umar chief Mushtaq Zargar released in Kandahar hijacking and the next day an immovable property of “The Resistance Front” militant Basit Ahmad Reshi was attached.

Peer, who was the launching commander of the Hizbul, was killed in Rawalpindi on January 20 under mysterious circumstances. A purported video that surfaced on social media showed Peer's funeral prayer was led by Pakistan-based Hizb chief Syed Salahuddin.

Locals in Kupwara said Peer’s immediate family had shifted to Pakistan in the 1990s after his father Sikander Peer and brother Nazir Ahmad Peer were killed allegedly by unknown gunmen.
