India will remember 10 years before 2014 as the lost decade: Narendra Modi targets Congress in Parliament

New Delhi: Indian PM Narendra Modi on Wednesday targeted the Congress-led UPA government, which ruled the country between 2004 and 2014, and said people will remember that period as 'the lost decade'.

Manmohan Singh had served as the PM of the nation during that period.

" The decade before 2014 will always be remembered as The Lost Decade, but the decade of 2030 is India’s decade," Modi said in the Parliament while giving reply to the motion of thanks to the President's address.

He said: "In 2010 too, when the Commonwealth Games were organized, we had an opportunity to present the strength of India."
"However, that opportunity too slipped away as a bigger scam of Common Wealth came to the fore and brought disrepute to the country globally," Modi, who came to power at the Centre after BJP's strong performance in 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha polls, said.

" UPA became synonymous with converting opportunities into trouble," he said. When IT was emerging, these people remained involved in the 2G scam and during the civil nuclear deal, they were busy with Cash-for-Vote," he said.

Modi further hit the former government and said: "During the UPA rule, only violence spread from Jammu & Kashmir to North East."
"The Voice of India was weakened so much that the world didn’t even bother to hear our voices during 2004-14," he said.

Attacking the grand old party of India, he said: "A study was conducted at Harvard, 'The Rise and Decline India's Congress party'. In the future, studies will be conducted in many big universities on the decline of the Congress."

Praising his government, Modi said the country now has a 'stable as well as decisive government'

"In the last 9 years, 90,000 startups have come up," he said.

Modi said a huge startup ecosystem has reached every nook and corner of the country.

He said: "The whole world is looking towards India with hope and trust and is excited for India."

He said the presidency of G20 is a proud moment for every 140 crore Indians.
