Mumbai/IBNS: Security outside Mumbai’s Tata Institute of Fundamental Sciences (TISS) was tightened ahead of the screening of a documentary on Prime Minister Narendra Modi by the student members of the Progressive Students’ Forum (PSF), media reports said.

Bharatiya Janata Party Yuva Morcha (BJYM) staged a protest against the screening of the controversial docu-series by the students.

The PSF members said the screening was a protest against the government’s move to block access to the documentary and in solidarity with the students of other colleges, India Today reported.

On Friday, the TISS administration issued a notice asking the students to desist from screening the BBC documentary and reminded the students it had given permission for it.

"Any action by students against this advisory will be dealt with strictly as per the rules," said the notice.

Meanwhile, in Delhi, 24 Delhi University students were held outside the Faculty of Arts on Friday after chaos erupted following a call by students' outfits (NSUI-KSU) to screen the documentary.

Similar incidents took place in Jamia Milia Islamia, Jawaharalal Nehru University in Delhi. Student outfits in the University of Hyderabad, Kolkata's Jadavpur University, Presidency University have also planned to play the doc series within their campuses.
