Jammu: Ahead of the Republic Day celebrations, Deputy Commissioner Jammu Avny Lavasa on Tuesday directed homeowners to submit details of their tenants and any property let or sublet or rented to the nearby police station within three days of issuance of the order.

As per the order issued on Tuesday, the Senior Superintendent of Police, Jammu has brought to the notice of the authorities time and again that there is an immediate need to conduct verification of tenants and domestic helpers as there have been instances of anti-national and anti-social elements seeking hideouts in the residential areas in the guise of tenants and domestic helpers.

“It is necessary that some measures be taken to make the landlords, property owners accountable before renting out, making available their premises to tenants, domestic helps,” Lavasa said in an order.

The District Magistrate further said that the threat posed by such adverse elements is an imminent danger to public safety and security that warrants immediate preventive measures under Section 144 of CrPC.

“The owners shall after the issuance of the order within three days submit without fail the detailed particulars of the tenant (s) as per the Declaration Form to be signed by both the owner and the tenant(s), to the concerned Police Station, either in person or by registered post addressed to the concerned Station House Officer (SHO),” the order added.

“The owners who have already let, sub-let, rented out their house(s) or part(s) thereof to any tenant(s) on any date prior to the issuance of order, shall submit the detailed particulars of the tenant(s) as per the declaration form to the concerned Police Station with immediate effect and it is clarified that all arrangements of letting or sub-letting the property,” read an order.

“It is ordered and require all landlord(s), owner(s) of properties, attorney holder(s), person(s) incharge of properties in any capacity (hereafter called as owners) located in entire jurisdiction of the District to comply that they shall submit without fail the detailed particulars of the tenent(s),” it further read.

Notably, with the rising population of tenants especially the non-locals in the localities like Talab Tillo, Bhagwati Nagar, Old City, Resham Ghar, Krishna Nagar, Bakshni Nagar, Canal Road, Janipur, New Plot, Sarwal, Parade and in other pockets of North Jammu, ‘illegal’ mushrooming of paying guests have also increased manifold in Jammu city.
