'Incident happened in Bihar, not Bengal': Mamata on Vande Bharat Express attacks

India Blooms News Service | @indiablooms | 05 Jan 2023, 02:02 pm

Kolkata/IBNS: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday refused to accept that the attacks on newly launched Vande Bharat Express took place in her state but claimed it was pelted with stones in the neighbouring state Bihar.

Speaking to the reporters, Banerjee said, "The incident didn't happen in Bengal rather in Bihar. The people of Bihar might be dissatisfied and even if they have done something, we can't defame Bihar. Bihar too has the right to have the train."

"Action will be taken against those who defamed Bengal," the Chief Minister, who called Vande Bharat just a remodel of an old train, added.

The particular train, which is the country's seventh and West Bengal's first, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually in presence of Banerjee on Jan 30.

Vande Bharat Express, which connects south Bengal to north Bengal, faced two stone pelting first in Malda on Monday and then in New Jalpaiguri the following day.

Condemning the incident, BJP leader Rahul Sinha told India Blooms, "The anti-national forces in the state have attacked the train with virtual political backing.

"The anti-national forces are huge in West Bengal because the state has no law and order."
