Kolkata/IBNS: Union Home Minister Amit Shah and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will hold a meeting at the state headquarters Nabanna in Kolkata on Saturday.

Shah is scheduled to hold a meeting of the Eastern Zonal Council (EZC) in presence of Banerjee and Chief Ministers from other eastern states.

Shah, the top Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, arrived in Kolkata on Friday.

He was welcomed by BJP leaders including state president Sukanta Majumdar and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Suvendu Adhikari.

Shah also held a meeting with the state BJP leaders at the party's central office in MG Road.

Shah's meeting with Banerjee has assumed significance as the latter's Trinamool Congress (TMC) is a staunch rival of the BJP.

In the 2021 assembly elections, the BJP's dream to assume power in West Bengal was shattered by Banerjee's TMC which returned to power for the third consecutive term.
