Karnataka: Autorickshaw explodes in Managaluru, 2 injured

Mangaluru: An autorickshaw exploded in Karnataka’s coastal town Mangaluru, injuring the driver and a passenger, media reports said.

The cause of the explosion is still not clear and the police are investigating the incident, NDTV reported.

Mangaluru police chief N Sasikumar said people have been asked to maintain calm and not pay heed to rumours.

"It is early to jump to conclusions. The driver alleged he spotted the fire. We request the public not to spread rumours. They should remain calm and not panic. We will update once we speak to them," Sasikumar was quoted as saying by NDTV.

The driver and the passenger are undergoing treatment in a hospital and are unable to speak now, he added

Meanwhile, visuals of the incident show the autorickshaw exploding as it came to halt near an under-construction building.

The fire, reportedly, spread from the plastic bag the passenger was carrying.

The Mangaluru Police said it is checking the contents of the bag, adding that the forensics team has already collected samples from the site.
