Yogi told the media: "The entire state is mourning his demise. I on behalf of the state government and the people of the state pay humble tributes to respected Mulayam Singh."

Yogi said that he was an important pillar associated with socialist ideology and was the focal point of state politics for five decades.

"He played an important role in state and national politics," he said.

He said the state government has declared three days of state mourning on his demise.

A meeting of the state cabinet chaired by Yogi was held during which a proposal on the demise of Mulayam Singh was passed. It was decided to perform the last rites of Mulayam Singh with full state honours.
