One of the accused in the Sidhu Moose Wala murder escaped police custody on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, media reports said.

Deepak alias Tinu escaped when a staff of the Central Investigation Agency (CIA) was taking him to Mansa from Kapurthala jail at around 11 pm, India Today reported.

They were travelling in the latter's private vehicle.

Deepak is a close aide of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, the mastermind behind Sidhu Moose Wala's murder.

He was caught by Punjab Police with the help of Delhi Police from Delhi.

He was brought to Punjab by the Delhi Police on a production warrant.

Saturday night's incident is the fourth time that he escaped the police, said the report.

Security officials are searching for the absconding gangster who has a history of scaring people by showing them murder videos.

Singer and politician Sidhu Moose Wala, 29, was shot down in Punjab's Mansa district on May 29, a day after the AAP government revoked his security.
