Famous singer KK dies of heart attack in Kolkata

Kolkata/IBNS: Famous Indian singer Krishnakumar Kunnath, popularly known as 'KK', died in Kolkata on Tuesday evening after delivering a performance at the city's Nazrul Mancha. He was 53.

One of the most versatile singers of this generation, KK has recorded songs in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Bengali, Assamese and Gujarati languages films.

He arrived in Kolkata on Monday for back-to-back performances here.

After his performance at the Nazrul Mancha, he returned to his hotel. He felt sick there and was rushed to the CMRI Hospital where he was declared brought dead at 10 PM, hospital sources told IBNS. An autposy would be conducted on Wednesday to ascertain the cause of his death.

The singer, who is more popular for his playback singing in Bollywood, is survived by his wife and two sons.

Reacting on KK's untimely demise, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted: "Saddened by the untimely demise of noted singer Krishnakumar Kunnath popularly known as KK. His songs reflected a wide range of emotions as struck a chord with people of all age groups. We will always remember him through his songs. Condolences to his family and fans. Om Shanti."

KK, who had never undergone any formal training, was greatly influenced by singer Kishore Kumar and music director R. D. Burman. 
 
His debut album Pal was released in April 1999. His performance on the album received a Star Screen Award from Screen India for Best Male Singer.
