Srinagar/UNI: The Security forces shot dead three militants of Lashkar-e-Taiba in an encounter close to the Line of Control in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Thursday.

The encounter erupted at Jumagund Kupwara after Army and Police intercepted infiltrating militants.

“All three terrorists killed, affiliated with proscribed terror outfit LeT. Identification being ascertained. Incriminating materials including arms & ammunition recovered,” IGP Kashmir was quoted in a police tweet.

Earlier Police said the operation was launched based on specific input developed by Kupwara Police regarding infiltration attempts of militants in village Jumagund.

This is the second infiltration bid that has been foiled in Kupwara in the last one week.

The Kupwara encounter broke out a day after three Pakistani Jaish-e-Mohammad militants were killed in Baramulla.
