New Delhi/UNI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested close associate of Congress MP Karti P Chidambaram, S Bhaskaran Raman in connection with a case related to alleged bribery to facilitate issuance of visa to Chinese nationals beyond ceiling, agency sources said here on Wednesday.

CBI sources said Bhaskararaman was arrested on Tuesday night from Chennai following not cooperating in the ongoing case.

On Tuesday, the premier probe agency raided various locations across the country linked to Karti P Chidambaram and also at the residence of Karti's father and former Finance Minister P Chidambaram in connection with the former's case.

"It was alleged that Karti Chidambaram favoured Chinese nationals in getting visas by taking money," CBI sources said.

CBI sources claimed these Chinese nationals took visas for a project in Punjab's Mansa.

As per a statement issued by the CBI on Tuesday, it had registered a case against five accused including Karti Chidambaram, private companies based at Mumbai, Mansa (Punjab) etc and unknown public servants and others on allegations of bribery of Rs 50 for issuance of visas to Chinese nationals.
