Thane/UNI: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has moved an application in a Bhiwandi court here seeking permanent exemption from appearing in the case for the hearing in the infamous defamation case against him, officials informed on Wednesday.

However, the Courts of Judicial Magistrate of First Class (JMFC) of Bhiwandi JV Paliwal, did not not pass any orders on the application, instead he has called for the say of the complainant on the application on May 18, 2022.

Meanwhile, Gandhi in his application stated that being a member of parliament he has to attend to his constituency and also his party work and travel a lot and hence he be exempted from appearing in person.

His counsel Adv Narayan Iyer told this correspondent that Gandhi has also stated in his application that whenever required he be allowed to attend the hearings through his counsel.

The complainant Rajesh Kunte of the RSS also moved an application seeking exemption for himself as he was unwell. The court has allowed the same.
