Fresh violence breaks out in Jodhpur amid Section 144

Jodhpur/UNI: The situation in Jodhpur continued to remain tense on Tuesday after fresh clashes were reported following Eid prayers in the city's Jalori Gate area.

These clashes took place despite prohibitory orders under Section 144 being in place since Monday night when two groups in Rajasthan city clashed over religious flag hoisting.

Police personnel had to lathicharge the miscreants on Tuesday again as they also resorted to stone pelting.

The exact cause of the fresh violence after Eid prayers is not clear.

Addressing the media, Jodhpur Police Commissioner Navjyoti Gogoi said that the situation is under control at present and appealed to the people to maintain peace and order.

Gogoi said that FIRs would be registered against miscreants when complaints were received.

Violent clashes were first reported on Monday night in the city due to forceful removal of a flag and installation of another by a particular community.

Incidents took place in the Jalori Gate intersection of the city after one of the groups put up their flag at Balmukund Bissa Circle after removing another flag.

When the latter objected, heated arguments between the two communities led to violence.

Police hoisted the Tricolour at the Circle to prevent further incidents.

Stone pelting took place and police had to resort to lathicharge to disperse the crowd. Jodhpur Divisional Commissioner Himanshu Gupta ordered internet services to be snapped in the entire district.
