Srinagar: At least one terrorist was killed as gunfight is currently underway between terrorists and Indian security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Srinagar city on Wednesday.

Kashmir police said terrorists belonging to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and The Resistance Front (TRF) terror outfits, who were associated with the killing of People's Democratic Party (PDP) sarpanch Sameer Ahmad Bhat, have been trapped in the encounter.

"#Terrorists of proscribed #terror outfit LeT/TRF involved in the recent #killing of Khanmoh’s #Sarpanch Sameer Bhat, trapped in Nowgam #encounter: IGP Kashmir," Kashmir Zone Police tweeted.

"#SrinagarEncounterUpdate: 01 #terrorist killed. #Operation in progress. Further details shall follow," read another tweet.

The gunfight erupted on the outskirts of Srinagar at Nowgam when security forces launched an anti militancy operation.

This is the second gunfight in Kashmir since Tuesday.

A Lashkar-e-Toiba militant was killed in a gunfight at Awantipora in south Kashmir on Tuesday.
