Kashmir earthquake: PM Modi takes stock of situation

New Delhi/UNI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday spoke to Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and took stock of the situation after a quake measuring 5.7 rocked the union territory, sources said.

"PM called Jammu and Kashmir LG Manoj Sinha to inquire about the situation due to the earthquake," a government source told UNI.

There was no immediate report of any casualty or damage to property.

The earthquake, which had its epicenter in the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border rocked J&K, Punjab and Pakistan as well.

Tremors were also felt in New Delhi around 9.46 am.

"Earthquake of Magnitude:5.7, Occurred on 05-02-2022, 09:45:59 IST, Lat: 36.340 & Long: 71.05, Depth: 181 Km, Location: Afghanistan-Tajikistan Border Region," National Center of Seismology tweeted.

Jammu and Kashmir Meteorological Department also said the tremors were felt at around 9:46 am in Kashmir and its epicenter was at a depth of 181 kilometres in the Afghanistan Tajikistan Border region.
