India witnesses flypast of 75 aircraft and helicopters on 73rd Republic Day

New Delhi/IBNS/UNI: The flypast of 75 aircraft and helicopters was the main highlight in the 73rd Republic Day of India, which had adopted its Constitution on this day in 1950.

The customary parade at the iconic Delhi's Rajpath showcased military prowess and cultural pageantry.

Ahead of the event, which was attended by only 5,000 people maintaining COVID-19 protocols, began at 10:30 am.

Prior to the parade, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid his tributes to the fallen soldiers at the National War Memorial.

Accompanied by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, the Prime Minister laid a wreath at the War Memorial and Inter Services Guard played the tune of 'Salami Shastra' followed by 'Sloka Shastra'.

They were joined by three service chiefs - Army Chief General MM Naravane, Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar, and Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari. A two-minutes of silence was observed.

The parade, led by Lieutenant General Vijay Kumar Mishra, was preceded by the unfurling of the tricolour with a 21-gun salute.

The contingents of the security forces were succeeded by the tableaux of various states and union territories.

A total of 21 tableaux, 12 of various states and union Territories, and nine ministries were showcased at the parade.

The themes of the tableaus were prepared keeping in mind the 75th Independence anniversary in line with the 'Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav'.

President Ram Nath Kovind awarded Ashok Chakra posthumously to Assistant Sub Inspector Babu Ram.
